Loon Lake RCMP Community Update

There were 303 reports in Loon Lake RCMP Detachment area January 1-31, 2024. This is a 12% increase in reports from the 270 received in January, 2023. Overall there were more reports of property crime, including 6 break and enter reports, 61 reports of mischief and 13 reports of theft. Also, there were increased reports of violent crime, such as 17 reports of assault, 5 reports of uttering threats and 3 robberies reported in January, 2024. This January there were also 9 reports of theft under $5,000.00, 2 motor vehicle thefts, 6 animal-related reports, 3 missing persons reports and 8 requests for wellbeing checks.
Patrols in community lead to drug seizure
Loon Lake RCMP has been out and about, conducting patrols in the communities of Loon Lake, Makwa, Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation, as well as on highways in the surrounding areas.
During an early morning patrol by Loon Lake RCMP on January 1, 2024, a traffic stop was conducted. As a result of investigation, quantities of “rainbow” or brightly-coloured fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine and cocaine were located and seized from the vehicle. Robert Parenteau of Marshall, SK was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking crystal methamphetamine and methamphetamine.
Arrest by Loon Lake RCMP, Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team, and Meadow Lake Police Dog Services
On January 9, 2024, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Loon Lake Detachment, Police Dog Services and Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team attended a residence on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation to arrest a wanted male, Christian Mitsuing.
The officers approached the residence and the male fled on a quad. They used a remotely piloted aircraft and located him at a second residence. Officers approached him, told him he was under arrest, but he fled again on a quad.
Extensive investigation continued by Loon Lake RCMP, in conjunction with the Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team and Meadow Lake Police Dog Services. On February 16, 2024, police officers and Police Service Dog Maddy located Christian, who fled into the woods in a brief foot chase near a residence on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation. Christian exited the woods and was arrested without incident on all his four warrants and also picked up an additional charge for resisting arrest.
