Makwa Community Curling Rink is starting up again in three months!!!
HUGE Thank you to Innovation Federal Credit Union for awarding us $20,000 from their Legacy Community Development Grant program for 2026.
We appreciate Innovation Federal Credit Union’s support and the funds already went to converting our ice plant coolant which will keep our ice plant up and running! This is the 10th year for us operating and managing our community’s curling rink after it had been shut down for 10 years. This is our 9th curling season (we did not put in ice one year due to Covid) and we are excited to continue to grow and reach new curlers and cheer on our older members!
Our rink is run entirely by volunteers which helps us to keep it affordable and to lower barriers for families to access a fun and inclusive sport and community. We start up the ice plant to start making ice around Dec 1 and run an 8 week curling season for Jan and Feb each year.
